**About the Role**:
**Plan Making and Policy Formulation**
Provide a planning / policy framework that can be used as a basis for decisions that result in the sustainable development of Councils open space and recreational assets, including:

- Assisting with setting of the planning agenda through Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework;
- The preparation of strategic plans and policies from concept to adoption;
- Collaborating on cross Council integrated planning projects and the attainment of Council’s Community Strategic Plan (CSP) outcomes;
- Undertaking project planning, tendering and management processes;
- The design of monitoring and reporting processes to ensure a program of continuous improvement;
- Identifying emerging opportunities and ensuring the effective delivery of programs and processes; and
- Preparing and implementing Management Plans (plans of management) for Council’s areas of open space and assist in the implementation of recreation and open space capital works in areas under the care, control and management of Council in liaison with relevant staff from Council’s Facilities Unit.

**Management and Co-ordination**
Initiate programs and projects related to, and assist in the implementation of the following:

- Provide professional and timely advice to ensure conservation, environment and sustainability issues and objectives are addressed during the preparation and implementation of Council’s strategic plans and policies;
- Serve as an information and liaison base for Council, the local community, government agencies, project managers of development proposals and the local business sector regarding environmental and open space and recreational issues;
- Oversee, promote and undertake projects aimed at improving the understanding of conservation, environment and sustainability issues within Council and the local community; and
- Participate in, and monitor and report on the effectiveness of program implementation and revise program activities accordingly.

**Public Consultation and Engagement**
Provide advice (to) and communicate (with) Council, agency and community ‘customers’ by ensuring that all stakeholders are engaged in the plan making and coordination processes. This includes:

- Designing, coordinating and conducting public engagement processes, including leading and facilitating community group meetings and stakeholder/focus group sessions;
- Ensuring that all stakeholders are engaged in the plan making process and have the ability to influence policies and plans for the future;
- Working in integrated teams across Council to prepare, implement and communicate Council’s strategic planning and policy framework.
- Assisting all customers with high quality advice about current policy/plans and the open space and recreation, and environmental planning agenda, to allow timely and informed decisions to be made;
- Keeping the community, Council, the Executive and relevant agencies informed about progress of plan making and policy formulation processes; and
- Updating and the expansion of the recreation and open space information on the Council Website.
