Lead Draftsperson

**Overview**:
Paterson & Cooke Australia was formed in 1991 as a partnership between Dr. Robert Cooke and Dr. Angus Paterson, with the aim of providing consulting services specialising in hydraulics and hydrotransport to the local mining industry.

Since then, the company has grown and extended its range of services so that it now offers comprehensive specialist and slurry handling solutions from its offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa, Santiago in Chile, Denver in the USA, Sudbury, Vancouver and Calgary in Canada, Perth in Australia and Cornwall in the UK.

We are currently seeking the support of an experienced Lead Draftsperson to join our team. This position is a full-time ongoing position, working 40 hours per week based in Perth.

**Main tasks**:

- Produce standalone drawings and drawings from 3D models for equipment, piping systems, structures, foundations, and earthworks aspects of projects (primarily heavy industry, mining and resources industries).
- Ensure deliverables are done to the best of your ability, within scheduled timeframes and according to company standards and procedures.
- Produce and assist with the issue and correction of drawings for piping systems and slurry pump stations (including plans, elevations and sections), based on engineers' sketches, diagrams and project specifications.
- Production of process drawings (PFDs and P&IDs), as required.
- Assist with the issue and correction of required charts, models, plans, designs and technical specification reports prepared in connection with a wide range of projects.
- Develop and maintain drawing standards and templates.
- Develop BIM specifications for projects.
- Provide CAD coordination between internal and external drafting departments on joint venture projects.
- Perform clash detection of design models against as-built models, or other consultants’/clients’ design models.
- Assist in the issue of project proposals by estimating hours applicable to individual drafting deliverables.
- Improve drafting workflows and automation.
- Assist other Draftspersons and train junior staff, as required.
- Assist with project management tasks, as required.

**Required/Relevant Qualifications & Work Experience**:

- Degree or Diploma in Engineering, and at least a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a similar position.

**Required/Relevant Skills & Knowledge**:

- Advanced computer literacy skills, including with MS Office package.
- Competent modelling and drawing production skills in either MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD or Inventor.
- Familiarity with 3D modelling environments and converting these into clear and concise 2D drawings.
- Good understanding of best practice drafting workflows, model and drawing setup, file management, etc. in the relevant package.
- Able to work autonomously and under pressure, as well as to show initiative and take charge.
- Good team player who can work well with others and effectively lead a team.
- Honest, self-motivated, reliable and well organised.

**Other Requirements**:

- Valid WA drivers’ licence (**desired**)
- Ability and willingness to travel when and if required (**required**)
- Full-time work permission (**required**)

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Rotating roster
