**Position Information**:
Sydney Secondary College Balmain Campus is a vibrant middle school with 810 students, including 21 Aboriginal students, located on the harbour foreshore with selective, enrichment, comprehensive and special education streams for students in years 7-10. As part of Sydney Secondary College, our highly skilled and dedicated staff have opportunities to teach across campuses - Leichhardt (7-10) and Blackwattle Bay (11-12) as well as work with colleagues across campuses in collaborative practices and professional learning opportunities.
**Selection Criteria**:
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
Demonstrated ability to lead the collaborative development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of effective individual learning plans and specialist assistance to support students with diverse and complex learning and support needs.
High level interpersonal and organisational skills to lead and build capacity in a team of learning and support teachers and school learning support officers, and engage effectively with external agencies and parents.
Capacity and willingness to collaboratively develop and / or deliver professional learning for staff that builds their capacity to differentiate curriculum to students across a range of learning needs and enhance literacy and numeracy outcomes in line with the school’s strategic directions.
Capacity to work with a dynamic executive team to build and support whole school strategic directions and strive for continual improvement across campus and college contexts.
**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
