The Restorative engagement Worker is a role within Community and Family Services and is accountable to the Team Leader, MAYFS for:
- providing case management to Aboriginal young people and their families, assessing and responding to the individual and complex needs of Aboriginal young people and facilitating positive experiences for young people with parents, family members, significant others and the community
- engaging with Aboriginal young people and their families to work together to address issues affecting their at-risk behaviours and assist Aboriginal young people to access relevant government and nongovernment services for better life outcomes
- supporting MAYFS partnerships with the local community to identify issues contributing to offending by Aboriginal young people and developing diversionary local responses, particularly in high-risk locations
- work in partnership with Restorative Engagement/Support Workers, Senior Restorative Practitioner and the Team Leader to deliver services that are welcoming and that focus on the restorative practice principles
- support the team to collaborate with the community to deliver programs and activities for Aboriginal young people, including a combination of recreational, cultural, educational and other activities
- communicate across government and non-government organisations, families, communities and with individual clients to strengthen the support in managing the key issues that face them
- develop case plans and assessments incorporating culturally appropriate goals and information where applicable
- identify clients with complex needs requiring further assistance and referral
- work in a culturally appropriate manner with community, kin and family to achieve outcomes for the young person
- maintain accurate documentation and case file information for clients and other organisational records.
Key outcomes and accountabilities
1. Work in partnership with Restorative Engagement/Support Workers, Senior Restorative Practitioner and the Team Leader to deliver services that are welcoming and that focus on the restorative practice principles.
2. Support the team to collaborate with the community to deliver programs and activities for Aboriginal young people, including a combination of recreational, cultural, educational and other activities.
3. Communicate across government and non-government organisations, families, communities and with individual clients to strengthen the support in managing the key issues that face them.
4. Develop case plans and assessments incorporating culturally appropriate goals and information where applicable.
5. Identify clients with complex needs requiring further assistance and referral.
6. Work in a culturally appropriate manner with community, kin and family to achieve outcomes for the young person.
7. Maintain accurate documentation and case file information for clients and other organisational records.
Note: Any other responsibilities in line with the classification level of the role as assigned by Line Manager and/or the Department. The responsibilities as specified above may be altered in accordance with the changing requirements of the role.
**Special Conditions**
- Some out of hours work may be required.
- Inter and intra-state travel may be required.
- Successful applicant will be required to hold a National Police Check (NPC) and satisfactorily complete an Employment-related Screening Check where this is required for the role, prior to being employed.
- Successful applicant will be required to hold a Working with Children Check (WWCC) prior to being employed.
- Successful applicant will be required to provide evidence of completion of Child Safe Environments for Children and Young People full day training course or evidence of enrolment.
- The incumbent may be required to hold a current Australian issued Driver’s Licence (equivalent to minimum class ‘C’ - South Australian), which must be maintained. Incumbent must be willing and able to drive all government vehicles within their licence classification during the course of their duties.
