Sydney, Australia Optiver Full time

**WHO WE ARE**

Optiver is a global market maker founded in Amsterdam, with offices in London, Chicago, Austin, New York, Sydney, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei and Mumbai. Established in 1986, today we are a leading liquidity provider, with close to 2,000 employees in offices around the world, united in our commitment to improve the market through competitive pricing, execution and risk management. By providing liquidity on multiple exchanges across the world in various financial instruments we participate in the safeguarding of healthy and efficient markets. We provide liquidity to financial markets using our own capital, at our own risk, trading a wide range of products: listed derivatives, cash equities, ETFs, bonds and foreign currencies.

Optiver's Sydney office is one of the primary players within Asian markets, trading a range of products. Established in 1996, we're an active participant on the Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Japan exchanges, and act as Optiver's APAC head office.

**WHAT YOU'LL DO**

We're looking for an experienced and hands-on Infrastructure Lead to join our APAC Infrastructure team in Sydney. In this role, you'll lead a small team of high-performing engineers, drive technical initiatives across our hybrid infrastructure, and collaborate closely with global stakeholders. You'll be responsible for both technical delivery and team development — striking the balance between strategic leadership and deep technical expertise. We're looking for someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced setting and is passionate about building scalable, secure, and automated infrastructure solutions. Your key responsibilities would include:

- Lead and mentor a team of infrastructure engineers based in the APAC region
- Develop and manage the global Optiver Trading Workstation infrastructure. You'll directly influence the front-end systems used by all traders in Optiver
- Drive automation and infrastructure-as-code best practices using tools like Python, PowerShell, and Terraform
- Own critical systems across VMware, Windows Server, NetApp, and related enterprise infrastructure
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams globally, ensuring reliability, scalability, and operational excellence
- Be a culture carrier — shaping team values, communication practices, and ways of working
- Influence long-term technical direction and provide strategic input on how infrastructure evolves to meet business needs
- Ensure observability and proactive system monitoring across all platforms

**WHO YOU ARE**
- Proven leadership experience managing or mentoring technical teams (minimum 3+ years in a lead capacity)
- Strong technical background in infrastructure engineering
- Deep hands-on experience with, or a willingness to learn and dive deep into:

- Python, PowerShell, or Terraform (HCL)
- Virtualization infrastructure
- Windows Server management & debugging
- NetApp or similar enterprise storage systems
- Solid understanding of Active Directory, DNS, and core networking concepts
- Experience with observability stacks (e.g., SCOM, Telegraf/Influx/Grafana, Prometheus)
- Strategic thinker with the ability to influence and drive decisions, with a high degree of ownership
- Strong listener who creates space for diverse views while providing technical direction

**WHAT YOU'LL GET**

You'll join a culture of collaboration and excellence, where you'll be surrounded by curious thinkers and creative problem solvers. Driven by a passion for continuous improvement, you'll thrive in a supportive, high-performing environment alongside talented colleagues, working collectively to tackle some of the most complex problems in the financial markets.

In return for your expertise, you will be offered a competitive salary package as well as access to a range of Optiver perks, including:

- The chance to work alongside best-in-class professionals
- Competitive remuneration, including an attractive bonus structure and additional leave entitlements
- Training, mentorship and personal development opportunities
- Gym membership plus weekly in-house chair massages
- Daily breakfast, lunch and an in-house barista
- Regular social events including an annual company trip
- Guided relocation, a competitive relocation package and visa sponsorship where necessary.
