The **Australian Institute of Music** **(AIM)** is seeking an experienced **Head of People and Culture** to join our leadership team and drive our people strategy. The role is a great mix of hands-on support/advisory, resource management, payroll oversight and strategic thinking.
**The Role**
As our Head of People and Culture, you’ll be leading a small team and reporting directly to the CEO. You’ll have the opportunity to use your People & Culture experience, together with your Higher Education sector experience, to create best practice initiatives to support the institute, academic and support staff and Board of Directors.
You’ll be taking on an established function within the business that also provides opportunities for you to make it your own, continuing to develop People and Culture best practice including engagement, reward & recognition and performance management.
You will be a natural collaborator and confidante to the CEO. Your experience will be highly valued by the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), supporting the strategic priorities and initiatives.
**Your Key Responsibilities**
- Support the CEO in developing, implementing and driving the Institute’s Strategic Plan, as part of the leadership group
- Partner with key business leaders to ensure effective people strategies underpin all business critical initiatives
- Provide responsive, proactive and compliant advice to all stakeholders across the employment lifecycle
- Develop, maintain and implement People and Culture systems, processes, policies and infrastructure that deliver the strategic objectives of the Institute.
- Champion all elements of a change management process
- Actively and innovatively add value to the employee experience.
- Maintain in-depth, current knowledge and interpretation of legal and compliance requirements for statutory authorities (eg. such as Fair Work, TEQSA, Safe Work Australia)
- Coach leaders/managers to effectively respond to workplace issues & grievances, and where appropriate, deliver appropriate interventions in order to resolve in a timely manner.
- Manage all employee grievances and investigations
- Review HR systems and develop roadmap for future growth
- Contribute to the development of a Performance Dashboard - with key P&C metrics captured and reported weekly.
- Partner with the Leadership Team to address team performance or systemic structural issues
- Up-skill Leadership Team on key employer obligations under WHS, SafeWork Acts
- Champion Diversity & Inclusion obligations, awareness and initiatives
- Provide guidance on all restructures
**Your Knowledge and Experience**
- Tertiary Qualification in Human Resources or a related field
- Previous experience working in the Higher Education sector
- At least 5 years experience working as a Human Resources leader
- Leadership experience In depth knowledge and understanding of Fair Work legislation, modern awards and payroll legislation
- Deep understanding of all WHS legislation and regulations
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and SharePoint and understanding of HR software and systems
- Ability to manage projects with associated business impact, ensuring critical deadlines are met, and that risks, issues and required resources are effectively managed
- Excellent communication skills, with a positive and practical approach to both students and staff
