Overview:
**The Role**:
We're hiring a Principal Data Platform Engineer reporting to the Engineering Manager for the Internal Analytics Platform. You are an expert Cloud Engineer/SRE with expertise across a range of infrastructure technologies e,g AWS, Kubernetes.

You will join the team that oversees Socrates, Atlassian's internal data lake. The team is comprised of people with backgrounds in Data, Infrastructure and Software Engineering. The team owns everything from networking through to data engineering tooling. Our mission is provide a world-class Analytics Platform for Atlassian's data teams.

The team has just finished building our a metadata driven internal data platform. This is an enormous initiative and a unique opportunity within Australia. The team is now turning its focus towards enabling the migration of Atlassian's 1000's of data assets to the new platform.

To help our teams work together effectively, this role is fully remote, but requires you to be located in the AEST time zone

**Responsibilities**:
As a Principal Data Platform Engineer you will drive the development of Atlassian’s data platform and it’s associated capabilities with a focus on reliability, scalability, cost and security. You will collaborate with your team, the broader platform group and our users to ensure the Atlassian data platform is world-class.

Day to day you will help design and deliver platform architectures, oversee the operation of our various pieces of infrastructure, work with customer teams to build and/or select an effective set of platform capabilities and provide guidance to the next generation of Engineering talent.

This is a Individual Contributor role but you will set direction and be accountable for helping streams deliver their goals.

Qualifications:
**Must haves**:

- 5+ years of industry experience in the Cloud Engineering/Infrastructure/DevOps domain
- Bachelor's or Master's degree (preferably a Computer Science degree or equivalent experience).
- Expertise with one or more prominent languages such as Java, Python, Kotlin, Go, or Scala is required.
- Extensive hands-on experience with AWS
- Experience mentoring other engineers and influencing decision makers throughout the organisation.
- Experience with Kubernetes (EKS)

**Nice to have**:

- Understanding of classical big data concepts and solutions
- Background in the data domain
- Exposure to Databricks/Spark
