**About the facility**
Children's Services at The Geelong Hospital provides care to the Geelong community and surrounding areas. We are dedicated to innovative, holistic family centred care. The Children’s Ward is a vibrant, 28-bed general paediatric unit caring for infants, children and adolescents with a variety of medical and surgical conditions. The unit also has a paediatric diabetes service and a Paediatric Hospital Post-Acute service which provides Home in the Home

**About the role**
Heath Wing 3 located at University Hospital Geelong are seeking a Paediatric Diabetes Educator to join their dynamic and progressive team. Our Paediatric Diabetes Service is rapidly expanding providing education for up to 150 local children with type 1 diabetes.

Education varies from the newly diagnosed child, including family and extended family to education on the use of insulin pumps, CGM and many other new devices which are now available to these children. Community Education is also a large part of the role as the child eventually goes back to school or kindergarten.

In addition you will need to be able to develop professional and collaborative partnerships with the other diabetes educators, medical, nursing, social work, dietitian and overall management team at Barwon Health.

Role includes supporting children, families and clinicians for children who are
- Admitted to the ward with first presentation (including supporting insulin adjustments)
- Admitted to the ward for any reason
- Hospital in the home admissions (including the possibility of home, school and community visits).

Barwon Heath is seeking an experienced paediatric diabetes educator to join the service which has had the opportunity to expand and offer hospital in the home as part of the paediatric diabetes service. This position is a new temporary position with the view of becoming permanent after 12 months as we expect the role will help reduce the number of days newly diagnosed and poorly controlled patients need to be an inpatient.
