**Overview**

First Line Risk is accountable for identifying and reporting risks, and partnering with the business to mitigate them within the Board’s defined risk appetite.

The **Business Partner, 1st Line Risk**will work closely with leaders to strengthen our first line of defence and drive operational resilience. As a trusted advisor, this role builds strong stakeholder relationships, enhances decision-making, promotes a positive risk culture and ensures effective risk management across the business.

The role is part of the Risk & Compliance team and works collaboratively to strengthen Control, Assurance and Governance frameworks, with support and direction from the Senior Manager, 1st Line Risk.

**Key Accountabilities and Main Responsibilities**

**Strategic Focus**
- Align with business teams to embed a “risk as a mindset” culture.
- Build capability and uplift risk awareness across the organisation.

**Operational Management**
- Develop First Line Risk protocols and train departments on implementation.
- Identify and escalate emerging risks to relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor and track risk mitigation plans, ensuring timely completion.
- Partner with leaders on internal audit actions and risk register management.
- Evaluate internal control frameworks and recommend improvements.
- Deliver assurance mapping and risk input into early change assessments (ECA).
- Contribute to continuous improvement of risk management strategies.

**People Leadership**
- Coach and support staff to strengthen risk capability and knowledge.Foster alignment with business objectives through clear, effective communication.

**Governance & Risk**
- Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.
- Support assurance programs and compliance practices across the business.Attend committee meetings and report on regulatory compliance as required.

**Experience & Personal Attributes**

**Essential Criteria**
- 3+ years’ experience in operational risk, compliance or related disciplines (financial services preferred).
- Tertiary qualification in business, commerce or related field.
- Strong knowledge of risk management principles and frameworks.
- Understanding of superannuation legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes under pressure.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to analyse complex processes and design effective controls.Collaborative and proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
