Full time hours - 31.73/hour + super Our client is a government body located in Fyshwick, ACT. They are responsible for the management of the territorial and municipal roads, national highways, the community paths, driveways, stormwater system, bridges, carpark facilities, traffic signals, streetlights and associated infrastructure. As a team member of the road maintenance crew, this position will participate in daily road maintenance activities ensuring work safely adhering to all standard operating procedures. The position will rotate across all road maintenance road crews and carry out other related duties depending on operational requirements where you will learn new skills within the team to ensure competency. **WHAT YOU WILL DO?** 1. Carry out general road maintenance activities which may include, but are not limited to: - Traffic control - Operation of a range of road maintenance plant and equipment, generally including mechanical broom, paver or compaction machinery - Pothole repair, paving and profiling works and emulstion spraying or minor maintenance of driveways and footpaths - Shovelling and raking and cleaning up of oil spills, broken glass debris, fallen vegetation etc. - Line marking duties - Sign manufacture or installation - Planning and estimating of road maintenance or minor related works including site measurement 2. Ensure all vehicles, machinery and equipment is well maintained, kept in good operational condition and assist in keeping the RM works yard and buildings clean and tidy at all times. 3. Carry out general and minor maintenance of road maintenance equipment and machinery or report mechanical problems to the Works Supervisor. 4. Participate in on-the-job training for new and existing staff members on the correct and safe operating procedures for equipment and machinery, as directed by the Works Supervisor. 5. Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); report any incidents in a timely manner; use all workplace equipment in accordance with any instruction given to ensure safe and proper use and participate in WHS inspection programs and comply with correction action results. 6. This position does not involve direct supervision of staff. **WHAT YOU REQUIRE?** The following capabilities form the criteria that are required to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. - Demonstrated experience in road maintenance practices and procedures - Competency to operate machinery associated with road maintenance operations - Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the TCCS Values framework, workplace respect, equity and diversity framework, workplace health and safety best practise and industrial democracy principles and practice. **COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS** 1. Permanent resident of Australia 2. Driver’s licence MR-Class is essential 3. Construction Induction (white card) essential 4. Asbestos Awarness essential 5. First Aid and/or Traffic Control Certificate desirable 6. This position does require a pre-employment medical 7.
