**About the role**
We are currently seeking Stevedores to join our team. These are casual positions to supplement our existing workforce due to increased business, and there may be an opportunity to move to more permanent arrangements in future.
As a Stevedore with DP World Australia, you will receive generous remuneration including shift premiums and overtime.
You will be assisting in the loading and unloading of cargo being handled at the DP World Melbourne Terminal. On commencement your main tasks will be manual, including lashing and pins. There will be opportunities to perform other tasks including operating heavy machinery (straddle carrier) in future.
- Lashing - This is the use of heavy rigging equipment to secure shipping containers to the deck of a ship.
- Pins - This is the locking and unlocking of heavy twist locks, which secure containers together and to the deck of a ship to prevent movement while at sea. This work is performed underneath a crane close to lots of moving machinery.
Our business is in operation 24/7 and in this this role you will work shift work - 8 hour day, evening and night shifts, across 7 days a week. You will be notified of your shifts 1 day in advance by calling an automated phone system or checking online.
Comprehensive training is provided, including a 2-week initial induction including training on lashing and pins.
**Skills and experience**
To be successful in this role, you will have the following:
- Experience with physical work or labouring and physically capable to undertake heavy manual tasks
- A current and valid full Driver's licence (manual desirable)
The following are an advantage:
- A current and valid Forklift licence (or willing to obtain prior to commencement)
- Experience with shift work across 24 hours, 7 days per week
- Experience operating heavy machinery
- Experience in heavy industry such as warehousing, transport and logistics, construction, mining, or manufacturing
You must be:
- Able to work flexible and irregular hours including nights and weekends at short notice
- Able to work at heights
