**Role**:
The assistant principal reports directly to the principal.
Assistant principals have a primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within the school to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program. In exercising the responsibility, assistant principals will have the authority to make all significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff relating to their area of designated responsibility within the framework of the school's strategic plan, policies and budget. Assistant principals will contribute to the overall management of the school through involvement in policy formulation and decision making.
The management of significant school program or functional areas in schools involve assistant principals in the analysis of the needs of students and the translation of state educational policy and frameworks into appropriate education programs to meet the needs of all students.
Typically assistant principals will be responsible for the effective use of the teaching staff and program budget of a defined area of the school's operation and for the oversight and leadership of the educational programs provided utilising these resources.
**Responsibilities**:
**Years 7 and 8 Improvement**:
- Overseeing Years 7 and 8 teams on a daily basis, supporting effective support of student learning, engagement and wellbeing
- Lead development of policies and processes that raise expectations for Year 7 and 8 students around the Levels of Learning pyramid
**Whole School Enrolment and Transitions**:
- Develop and implement whole school student enrolment and induction processes, including students enrolling and commencing throughout the year
- Lead and co-ordinate parent/carer information nights, open nights and other community experience days for students transitions e.g. Grade 4/5 class experiences, return visits to primary schools, online FAQ events, website content for transition
- Oversee Grade 6 to 7 testing and reviewing class lists for the following year based on PAT and other data sets
- Oversee the ACE program for Years 7 and 8, including entry/exit for students based on established criteria
- Lead an holistic transition plan for Grade 6 to Year 7 students and parents, including orientation days and Year 7 transition events e.g. Welcome BBQ
- Promote the college and act as representative alongside Year 7/8 Sub School Leader and Year 7 Team Leader in feeder primary school meetings and events
- Lead the development of a whole school transition plan focusing on end of year and start of year transition activities and programs for Years 7 to 12
- Oversee the development and implementation of the annual Start Up Program (SUP) focused on building students¿ learning skills and stamina
**Staff Induction, Development and Retention**:
- Lead whole school staff induction, including annual end of year new staff induction days, VIT processes, ongoing new staff PL sessions and allocation of mentors for all new staff
- Lead the development and implementation of the College GET SET program to support teachers in their first 3 years, as well as an annual Emerging Leaders program (w/KBE)
