This role is a full time traineeship which has been offered through the AFL Bachar Houli Employment Program to support young aspiring adults of Muslim background to gain employment across the football industry.

Workforce participation is a pivotal issue impacting the Australian Muslim community, especially Muslim young people. To help assist Muslim young people make that step into employment, the Federal Government has provided funding support for 10 traineeships for Muslim young people to work across the AFL industry over a 12 month period to gain critical work experience and job skills. The AFL in turn has partnered with AFL SportsReady together with the AFL Queensland to offer a unique traineeship opportunity as part of the Bachar Houli Employment Program.

The Diversity Trainee will be based out of AFL Queensland’s Head Office at Yeronga office and report to the State Indigenous and Multicultural Manager.

The Diversity Trainee will look across areas including talent, game development, communications, media and marketing to assist AFL Qld’s diversity strategy to become more visible and making sure communication to the Islamic community is culturally appropriate and caters to the community needs.

The Diversity Trainee will be working with AFL Qld’s regional office (Brisbane South) to facilitate the Bachar Houli Cup, Bachar Houli Academy nominations & training, Ramadan dinners, Diversity Umpiring Academy, Many Cultures Academy and other related programs to empower more young people and strengthen social inclusion, with a focus on those from Islamic communities.

Further the Diversity Trainee will also be working in conjunction with peak body Islamic groups in Brisbane to further strengthen AFL Qld’s already existing relationship with the community.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Bachar Houli State Programs
- Assist to create a strategic overview and action plan for Bachar Houli State deliverables
- Work closely with Bachar Houli Foundation representatives to meet State KPI’s and continue to

foster growth within the Queensland community
- Execute Bachar Houli State deliverables including programs, events and community engagement
- Build new relationships with key stakeholders to expand the presence of the AFL Queensland and

Bachar Houli Foundation brand within the broader community
- Assist the Diversity Coordinator with the delivery of culturally appropriate school programs in

highlighted areas with high Islamic representation
- Liaise with key school contacts to identify opportunities for engagement
- Foster the growth of new relationships within Islamic community groups
- Provide clear development, high-performance and talent pathway opportunities for young Islamic

people
Diversity & Inclusion Programs
- Assist in developing Diversity and Inclusion plans across community engagement, participation and

talent programs
- Assist the Diversity Coordinator with mapping and planning of the Diversity School Programs
- Assist Game Development staff with the delivery of the Diversity School Program across South-East

Queensland
- Identify opportunities to increase the knowledge and understanding of diverse communities to AFL

Queensland staff, stakeholders and partners
- Assist with the execution of activities around themed events including Multicultural Round and Sir Doug

Nicholls Round
- Provide assistance to AFL clubs and key stakeholders to plan and implement Diversity programs,

initiatives and events
- Assist with social inclusion and cohesion partnerships including key cultural celebrations such as

Ramadan, Harmony Day and NAIDOC week
- Work with AFL clubs to build strong community partnerships and use participation programs as a

platform to engage CaLD participants as fans of AFL clubs, community football and the game
