**Position Purpose**
A Research Fellow is expected to contribute to Murdoch University’s ASEAN-Australia One Health
Fellowship program and supporting the research activities of the fellowship program. This work will
Honours and HDR students.

**About the Work Area**
The Harry Butler Institute was established in August 2017. The Institute offers new academic pathways for
students and supports translational research programs in conservation and environmental management.
Research in the Institute is clustered into four major centres:
- Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Ecosystems
- Centre for Environment and Biodiversity
- Centre for Biosecurity and One Health
- Centre for Water, Energy and Waste

**Key Responsibilities / Duties**
1. Developing a research profile and professional expertise by contributing individually, and as a team, to
the scholarly work of the programme.
3. Consult with, and provide advice to, postgraduate students.
4. Contribute to the College, the University, the profession and the discipline.
5. Participate in the University’s Academic Contribution Development Review (ACDR).
6. Undertake such other duties as determined by the Centre Director.

**Selection Criteria**
1. Completion of a relevant postgraduate qualification, and/ or an equivalent qualification and combination
of experience in an area relevant to the appointment.
2. Demonstrated ability to work under broad direction only, exercise initiative in undertaking
responsibilities and work effectively as a team member.
3. Demonstrated ability to engage in high quality independent research.
4. Demonstrated capacity to generate research funding (either independently or as part of a research
team).
5. Demonstrated ability and commitment to successfully supervise honours, postgraduate and HDR
students.
6. Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary
and collegial team.
7. Demonstrated high levels of written and oral communication skills in English.
