**About MATES**

MATES was established in 2008, MATES are an evidenced
- based organisation who provide suicide prevention through community development programs on site, and by supporting workers in need through case management and a 24/7 help line. MATES serve the construction industry in Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia, the Energy industry in Queensland and New South Wales, nationally to the Mining industry, and the Manufacturing industry pilot underway.

The program was developed from a solid evidence base provided by the Australian Institute of Suicide Research and Prevention:

**The Role - Operations Manager, MATES in Mining**

Reporting to the General Manager in Mining, Energy & Manufacturing, the Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day delivery of the MATES in Mining program delivered by field officers and Case Managers across Australia. The Operations Manager in Mining will promote and participate in MATES in mining initiatives including charity lunches, Fly the Flag Day, Kokoda Trek; and actively help sites with fundraising initiatives for MATES in Mining.

**As Operations Manager in Mining, you will**:

- Provide operational support and supervision to field officers and Case Managers based across Australia.
- Directly deliver training (i.e., GAT, Connector Training and ASIST)
- Participate in MATES in Mining research projects, while actively promoting the programs across the Mining industry
- Collaborate with General Manager in assist in maintenance of governance standards and policies/procedures.
- Promote the MATES in Mining program across the mining industry and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Carry out administration tasks (approve staff timesheets, expense claims, leave approval ect.)
- Ensure staff are correctly and accurately recording data

**Your Skills and Attributes**
- A working experience with, and demonstrated knowledge of the Australian Mining industry and its key stakeholders.
- A mature and professional mindset, along with a calm, measured approach to working in a reactive environment.
- Highly developed interaction and interpersonal skills including the ability to support, supervise, consult, negotiate and advocate.
- Experience in Operational management
- Capacity to regularly travel.
- Ability to work autonomously, as well as part of a team.
- Proven success in leadership with strong planning and supervision skills
- Ability to effectively deliver programs and be comfortable public speaking/presenting, willingness to work with existing ASIST intervention model
- Experience and/or qualifications within the mental health, suicide prevention or not-for-profit sector is strongly desirable.
