**Role**:

- Learning Specialists will be highly skilled classroom practitioners who continue to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning and have a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning. Learning Specialists are expected to have deep knowledge and expertise in high quality teaching and learning in delivering improved achievement, engagement and wellbeing for students. The role of the Learning Specialist will be to model excellence in teaching and learning through demonstration lessons and, mentoring and coaching teachers in improving the skill, knowledge and effectiveness of the teaching workforce.
- The Learning Specialist role is aimed at building excellence in teaching and learning within the Teaching Service.

**Responsibilities**:
**Position Summary**:

- The Literacy Learning Specialist is a highly skilled classroom practitioner and instructional leader who plays a central role in driving teaching excellence and curriculum development across the school. This position supports the implementation of whole-school literacy improvement initiatives, and plays a key role in mentoring, coaching, data planning, data analysis, and teacher development. The Learning Specialist is a core member of the Senior Curriculum Team and collaborates with the leadership team to deliver strategic teaching and learning priorities.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**1. Teaching and Learning Leadership**
- Provide instructional leadership and expertise in effective pedagogical practices including literacy specific strategies and approaches across learning areas.
- Model high-quality teaching and lead demonstration lessons aligned with school improvement goals.
- Collaborate with staff to implement evidence-based teaching strategies across learning areas.
- Support whole school pedagogical approach to the teaching of literacy.
- Deliver professional development in relation to the literacy strategies that support all students.
- Goal setting for students who have Individual Education Plans
- establishing relevant and considered goals that are discussed in SSGs and Disability Inclusion Profiles.
- Provide expert advice and support of differentiated teaching practices.

**2. Curriculum Leadership**
- Lead and manage the English Curriculum Area.
- Monitor and support the development and delivery of curriculum programs in two additional areas:

- ** PE/Science**:

- ** Humanities/Arts**
- Work with curriculum leaders to ensure alignment with relevant curriculum documentation and school priorities for Year 7-12.

**3. Data and Assessment (Years 7¿9)**
- Establish and implement a data plan that coordinates delivery and analysis of literacy data.
- Lead the analysis and use of student achievement data to inform teaching practices and curriculum planning.
- Oversee PAT testing for Years 7¿9, including implementation, analysis, and reporting to staff.
- Coordinate NAPLAN analysis and support staff in using data to improve student outcomes.
- Identify trends, track cohort performance, and support differentiated teaching.

**4. Intervention programs and initiatives**
- Oversee the implementation of the MYLNS (Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy Strategy) program and Tutor Learning Initiative.
