Create change from the inside out
At Cherry Creek, we offer innovative services aimed at reducing reoffending and giving young people the skills to make the most of their lives when they return to the community.
The young people we work with can make remarkable changes in their lives. For many, that process will begin at the new state-of-the-art Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct. By working here, you can be a part of the change you want to see and make our state a safer place to live.
The opportunity
As a reception and security officer, you will be part of the team responsible for the overall security and management of the reception building. Some of the tasks you will handle include:
- Pedestrian circulation and vehicle management, to ensure that only authorised persons enter and that entrances are unobstructed.
- Security checks of people and possessions entering the precinct.
- Maintaining registers (such as mobile phone and tool registers).
- Issuing visitors and contractors with identification passes, keys and swipe cards (where required) on entry, which are retrieved on exit.
- Main Control Room (MCR) duties, including live monitoring of CCTV and response to alarms, duress and intercoms.
To thrive as a reception and security officer, you will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail.
**You will also have**:
- Experience with security systems and/or experience in a custodial environment.
- A current full driver's license.
- Both a commitment to obtaining a Working with Children Check (WWCC) and a statement of attainment for the first aid unit HTLAID011 Provide First Aid. If you don't have these already, you will have time to complete these further into the recruitment process.
About Cherry Creek
We want young people to return home with the confidence that they can thrive in their own communities, so Cherry Creek is designed to represent a familiar, real-world environment. Instead of larger dormitory-style accommodation, young people at Cherry Creek sleep in smaller four-bed and eight-bed units across different neighbourhoods.
**Some of Cherry Creek's other design features include**:
- Age-appropriate and culturally sensitive accommodation and learning environments.
- Enhanced health, mental health and drug and alcohol support, including a dedicated medical centre and two mental health units for young people.
- Purpose-built buildings to deliver programs and education, including a recreational centre and vocational training campus for trade-specific courses.
- A spiritual and cultural space for cultural and faith-based programs, including gardens and a yarning circle.
- Energy-efficient design throughout the precinct, with the use of many recycled materials.
- Modern and spacious staff facilities with views of the You Yangs mountain range.
- Access to on-site parking and staff gym.
We want to make sure all Victorians feel represented by the department's work. We do this by recruiting a diverse workforce - we welcome people of any gender, age, religion, sexual orientation, disability, and cultural background. We are also committed to the Victorian Government's promise to increase the number of veterans working in the public sector.
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
**IMPORTANT INFORMATION**:
The department is committed to providing and maintaining a working environment which is safe and without risk to the health of its employees consistent with the department's obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic). Therefore, there is a requirement that all DJCS employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to undertake duties outside of their homes.
At interview stage and prior to commencement of employment with the department, you will need to provide evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal. This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).
**Acceptable evidence includes**:
1. COVID-19 digital certificate (available via your myGov account)
2. Your immunisation history statement (available via your myGov account)
Other documentation outside the above will not be accepted as evidence of having received your COVID-19 vaccine doses.
