**Role Description/Criteria**

The Deputy Principal - Learning and Teaching is a member of the College Leadership Team and with the Principal, is particularly responsible for the College’s commitment to being a centre of learning that sets high academic standards, and is responsive to the needs of our students.
The Deputy Principal - Learning and Teaching accepts responsibility for the ongoing professional improvement of our teachers and the development of a learning & teaching program that is contemporary and flexible, so that all might flourish.

- The ability to lead, motivate and manage staff in a way that is highly relational and upholds high expectations for embedding the College vision and strategic improvement plan within a school community.
- High level of emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
- Developing a culture of continuous improvement in learning and teaching by placing learning at the centre of strategic and operational planning.
- Promote excellence and challenges underperformance by promoting effective teacher interventions, corrective action and follow-up.
- The capacity to implement effective learning and assessment frameworks that use data, benchmarks and observation to monitor student progress.
- Ability to lead a whole-school review of curriculum.
**KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Is a member of the Leadership Team and leads the Learning and Teaching Team, ensuring that they are impactful in their collective and individual roles.
- Oversees the management and delivery of the Quaere, MyMAP and VCE Curriculums.
- Sets high expectations for students and staff through careful collaborative planning, monitoring and reviewing of the effectiveness of learning occurring within and across classes.
- Ensures all courses are created and recorded in accordance with the various regulatory requirements.
- Ensures that students (and their parents/carers) understand the MyMAP and VCE programs and can access counselling and expert advice to make appropriate choices in and for their learning journey.
- Ensures effective tracking of the students’ academic progress and that this information is visible to staff, students and their parents/carers in a way that is clear and easy to utilise for future decisions.
- Recognises and actively supports the learning of students, families and carers with additional needs, especially those facing complex challenges.
- Ensures communication between Transition stakeholders- Provides vision and leadership in the development of best practice pedagogy:
- Promotes and designs programs for the improvement of Collective Efficacy of the teaching staff.
- Enables the Learning Leaders to work with teachers to build programs of learning that promote mastery, autonomy and purposeful learning.
- Promotes understanding and the use of the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) Professional Standards for Teachers
**CHILD SAFEGUARDING REQUIREMENT, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
All staff are required to be familiar with the content of our Child Safeguarding Policy and Program including their legal obligations with respect to the reporting of child abuse.
**OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH & SAFETY**
Perform the above duties in line with any safe work practices and processes and conduct oneself at work in a manner that is safe to self and others.
