**About Your New Team - “National Environmental Science Program (NESP) Climate Systems Hub“**
The National Environmental Science Program (NESP) Climate Systems Hub is looking for postdoctoral researchers who are passionate about tackling Australia's climate science challenges and adaptation needs. By working directly with adaptation practitioners, the Hub aims to build a practical on-ground climate research program that will shape national climate resilience.
**About the Role**
This fellowship presents a unique opportunity for a highly qualified researcher with strong quantitative skills and knowledge of climate processes to join a project focused on addressing Australia’s climate science challenges and climate adaptation needs.
As part of the National Environmental Science Program Climate Systems Hub project on regional climate change guidance for local action, your work will contribute to improved understanding and usability of climate projections and understanding of climate extremes.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to a coordinated climate change and adaptation research program across all four of the new NESP Hubs through the cross-cutting Climate Adaptation Initiative. You will be based within the School of Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Melbourne, supervised by Dr Andrew King, with the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues at the Bureau of Meteorology and CSIRO.
This initiative supports evidence-based decision-making and improves Australia's climate resilience, providing a platform for researchers to engage in co-design with federal, state, and territory stakeholders.
Working with leading climate researchers in Australia, this role offers a unique opportunity to further develop your climate science capability, drive impact, and make a meaningful contribution towards building Australia's climate resilience
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting research under supervision to meet the objectives of the NESP regional climate change guidance for local action project, with a focus on climate projections of extremes
- Communicating research findings by publishing in highly ranked journals, presenting at relevant conferences and developing plain English summaries and case studies
- Contributing to the co-design and co-production of research projects through interaction with stakeholders during the research process
- Participating in NESP events and attending relevant conferences, workshops and seminars
**Who We Are Looking For**
While not essential, experience engaging with government and industry stakeholders will be highly regarded.
They will also have:
- Completion (or near completion) of a PhD in Climate Science or a related discipline
