**The Opportunity**

The School of Chemical Engineering, UNSW, has an opportunity for a Research Associate to conduct research both independently and as part of a team. In this role, you will engage research and development in the field of photo-electrocatalysis (PEC) for hydrogen production, CO2 reduction and the production of chemical feed stocks such as ammonia and hydrogen peroxide. The research aims to develop highly efficient catalyst materials for photo-electrochemical process and reactor/unit designs, with the purpose of optimising the activity and stability of the catalyst, selectivity toward reaction products as well as scalability of the process.

This position will provide you with the opportunity to develop your scholarly research and professional activities both nationally and internationally. You will contribute to writing scientific papers and reports for international journals, participate in conferences and workshops, supervise HDR students, and actively engage with industry partners.

This role reports to Scientia Professor Rose Amal and has no direct reports.
- Salary, Level A - $110,059 to $117,718 per annum + 17% superannuation
- Full time
- Fixed-term contract - 24 months

**Skills & Experience**
- PhD or equivalent in Chemical/ Process Engineering or related discipline.
- Expertise and experience in material synthesis including thin film processing, chemical deposition and electrodeposition techniques.
- Extensive understanding of (photo-)electrochemical reactions with a focus on (photo-) electrochemical design and characterisation.
- Knowledge on semiconductor materials, surface catalytic properties and optical properties.
- Experience in testing, development and optimising photoelectrochemical devices.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
- Excellent presentation (oral) and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate and carry out research programs within project budgets.
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
- Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Ability and capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures.
