This role requires an in-depth knowledge of the University’s Animal Ethics processes. The successful applicant will act as an advisor to academics and technical staff in the safe and ethical use of animals in the teaching and research activities of the school. The applicant will necessarily have substantial knowledge and skills in animal husbandry practices for Companion Animals as well as Production Animals.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Train and provide professional and technical support and advice to academics and technical staff in navigating the University’s animal ethics processes and approvals.- Consult with academics and technical staff in relation to Animal Ethics matters in a strategic and proactive manner to ensure compliance and currency of approved AECs.- Provide technical advice on appropriate methods, quality assurance procedures, risk assessment.- Supervision and mentoring of the Livestock Teaching Coordinator.- Provide backup Prac delivery assistance and cover for the Livestock Teaching Coordinator and that team.- Contribute towards the School’s teaching program as required but within the time allotted for this role, including, teaching delivery, Prac planning, animal usage and scheduling.- Ensure a high standard of occupational health and safety standards and systems, including inductions, supervision, equipment training registers, administration of research Facilities, Inventories, reporting and investigating injuries, incidents and hazards- Promote a proactive safety culture in animal Pracs and implement continuous improvement- Undertake supervisory duties in accordance with 'Supervisor' level requirements and the UQ Leadership framework
This is a part-time (40%), continuing position.
At HEW level 6, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $88,099.39 - $94,512.08, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $103,076.28 - $110,579.13 annually. As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.
About You- Completion of a relevant degree in animal or veterinary sciences with subsequent experience in coordinating activities or an equivalent combination of relevant experience.- Demonstrated expertise in the University Animal Ethics processes and procedures.- Significant experience and expertise in the husbandry of companion and production animals.- Well-developed problem-solving skills, with an ability to forward plan, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work with a high level of adaptability, both independently and as part of a team- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to produce clear, succinct documentation and the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.- Demonstrated experience in supervising teams and building effective stakeholder relationships.- Commitment to upholding the University’s values, and with the outstanding personal qualities of openness, respectfulness and integrity- An avid interest or previous experience in the teaching and training of undergraduate/post graduate students and developing more junior research staff is desirable.
