**Job Number**:
979076
**Work type**:
Fixed Term Contract
**Location**:
Melbourne - Docklands
**Categories**:
Environment
**Who we are**:
In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.
As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, we care for water, life and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.
Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet, run through a yard sprinkler, or kayak down the Yarra—we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home —just as we have for over 130 years.
If you value making it count, diving in with curiosity, and doing what’s right, you're in the right place.
**About the Role**:
Reporting to Program Lead Community Connections, this is a pivotal role within the Community Connections Team. As the Waterwatch Coordinator you will be responsible for:
- Engaging with the community via citizen science opportunities and activation and deliver a program of community based environmental work
- Sharing knowledge of Melbourne’s Playtpus population and waterway health
- Engaging with a range of community partners and bringing stakeholders, academics, and interested citizen scientists together
- Managing data collection, analysis and interpretation including the use of citizen science technology
**About you**:
You bring strong data analysis and interpretation skills and are very capable with technology. You have the skills to manage data and communicate through a mobile phone App.
You are personable as you are professional and are extremely adept with customer facing responsibilities and can interact very well with an internal and external cohort of professionals, community volunteers or citizen scientists.
You are self-directed, can work autonomously and remain focused whilst you set the pace for the community projects and manage a steady volume of work against deadlines. Not losing sight that everything you do is collaborative work and participate in a strong team environment.
You genuinely enjoy working outdoors, are passionate about increasing community knowledge and working with the community on programs that will benefit our waterways.
This is quite a varied and a very unique role. It does require a person who will create educational resources and experiences, including online and face to face; and generate content and promote programs and outcomes trough appropriate channels including media, social media, reports, videos, forums and recognition events.
During Spring and Summer weekend work will be required approximately 1 weekend a month. This may be reduced during the Autumn and Winter seasons.
This role is fixed term for one year and is full time 5 days a week. Although based at Docklands there is some capacity to work at Melbourne Water’s Southeast Regional Office in Bangholme.
