The Lecturer will be required to teach, undertake research and publish in the area of optometry and vision science. The appointee will promote the Optometry program and maintain links and partnerships with relevant academic, industry and professional communities. The appointee will make an independent contribution to the School’s teaching, research, and program development whilst making a significant contribution to the development and delivery of Indigenous Health learning and assessment activities, in consultation with the School’s Indigenous Health Professional Education Team.
**Your key responsibilities will include**:
- Maintain deep discipline knowledge which is applied to inform unit design
- Integrate industry, clinical and/or research practice to teaching
- Lead unit teaching teams and works collaboratively with other unit teaching teams in the course
- Contribute and lead the development of assessments and teaching materials across student learning experiences throughout the Optometry program
- Contribute effectively to culture of educational excellence and engages collaboratively with peers
- Advance knowledge within their specific fields/areas of teaching scholarship and pedagogical research activity
- Contribute to discipline-based educational or pedagogy research projects
- Demonstrate emerging reputation in teaching scholarship and pedagogical research
- Work directly with industry placement providers and other stakeholders to develop placement opportunities for students
- Initiates, designs and conducts and may lead productive, high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs
- Engage collaboratively to develop novel and high-quality research or creative activities
- Widely communicates outputs to discipline(s) and the community
- Support attraction of external funding for commercialization and translation activities
- Supervise honours and/or HDR students with timely completions and productive, high quality outcomes
- Adopt and promote a culture of research excellence, innovation and impact
- Assist the implementation of local citizenship activities and contribute to effectiveness as influencer
- Contribute to the implementation of specific aspects of University’s strategic agenda
- Assist the implementation of community engagement activities
- Contribute to the implementation of University’s community engagement agenda
- Supporting and promoting cultural awareness training for staff and students to develop understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, their history and culture, explore cultural difference and implicit bias, and empower culturally appropriate policy and practice
**Key selection criteria for this role**:
- PhD in a relevant discipline and/or other relevant qualifications and experience is preferred but not essential
- Optometry qualification (eg BOptom, MOptom)
- Emerging reputation in research and scholarship through publications and/or exhibitions and/or success in obtaining external research funding
- Competence in developing and delivering Indigenous Health learning and assessment activities, in consultation with the School’s Indigenous Health Professional Education Team
- Ability to make a contribution to community engagement for research and teaching
- Capacity to contribute to leadership of teaching, research and/or administration
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues
- Ability to work with Industry partners to develop relationships for student placement
