Salary Range: $142,574 -$160,474 + Attractive Superannuation
The Specialist Mental Health Adviser is responsible for providing advice to support the policy and program goals of the Department, in relation to mental health, and make a significant contribution to the broader focus on mental health in DVA.
Specifically, the position will provide leadership in improving the knowledge and evidence base for the mental health requests and policy work of the Department. The Department is involved with a range of policy initiatives, which include addressing the mental health needs and mental health literacy for veterans and current and former serving personnel, families and DVA staff.
The role will provide an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of veterans and their families. The role is Canberra based; applicants outside of Canberra will need to be able to work remotely. The role provides opportunity for career advancement, flexible work arrangements, including working from home, and part-time private practice entitlements.

**Eligibility**
- Applicants must be an Australian citizen to apply.
**Mandatory**
- Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, AHPRA registration and endorsement as a Clinical
- Psychologist. Membership (or eligibility for membership) of a relevant professional body
- Experience as a practising clinician (minimum five years)
- Current unrestricted registration as a Health practitioner with AHPRA.
- Experience in clinical leadership and management
**Desirable**
- Understanding of the military context within Australia, and internationally
- Interest/expertise in working with a range of trauma presentations
- Understanding of broader Government mental health policy context and reform agenda
- An understanding of the mental health needs of the Australian defence and veteran communities
**Notes**
A merit pool will be established that may be used to fill similar positions (ongoing and non-ongoing) within the next 18 months.
