About us
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.
The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community.
About the role
- As a Registrar of the Magistrates' Court, perform appropriate legal, administrative and quasi-judicial functions relating to the day-to-day and ongoing operations of the Court.
- Maintain and facilitate key relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the Judiciary, legal profession, police, external organisations and agencies and other court users that interface with the Court to achieve local objectives.
- Provide guidance in determining the organisation of the work area including the supervision, training and motivation of staff as well as undertaking individual and group performance monitoring, management, reporting and development activities.
- Operate relevant computer systems, including case management systems such as Courtlink, LEX and CLMS and other technologies, such as recording and videoconferencing equipment as required.
- Contribute to the development, evaluation and implementation of new policies and procedures that enhance the Court's operations and assist in achieving the Court's strategic objectives.
- Supervise and ensure the security and maintenance of all court buildings and surrounds, where required.
- Represent the Court at forums and committees as required, explaining concepts and policies to clients, stakeholders and staff.
- Prepare, analyse and submit appropriate reports, briefs and correspondence, to support decision making in the work area.
- Other duties as directed and commensurate within scope of the role.
