**About us...**

The **Motor Trade Association of South Australia (MTA)** is South Australia’s only dedicated automotive industry group training organisation, delivering apprentices with the skills and industry access to best prepare them for a career as an Outdoor Power Equipment Technician.

MTA apprentices are trained by industry, for industry, this means you learn the skills that are needed in the modern workshop including practical hands on assessments.

We train over 900 apprentices and employ over 500 automotive apprentices across a range of automotive trades producing the qualified technicians of the future.

**About the role **

There’s an industry need for qualified Outdoor Power Equipment Technicians (formerly known as Small Engine Mechanics) which means more post apprenticeship opportunities than ever for young people wanting to get their start in the automotive industry.

Successful applicants will commence the AUR30716 Certificate III in Outdoor Power Equipment Technology qualification.

This role would be suited to a person who loves repairing machinery and has a genuine interest in working on mechanical and electrical systems, finding out what makes them work, and rectifying problems.

Outdoor Power Equipment Technicians can be found in a range of workplaces including small workshops, dealerships, councils and golf courses. They also work on all types of outdoor power equipment including chainsaws, lawnmowers, grass trimmers and small tractors.

Duties include:

- Tuning and diagnosing engines using electronic equipment
- Diagnosing, repairing and replacing engine management/fuel injection and electrical components
- Repairing/replacing faulty parts by removing assemblies such as engines, auxiliary components, mower blades and other components
- Testing and repairing electrical systems on ride on mowers and tractors such as lighting, instrumentation and electronic management systems
- Using scan tools and computers to identify electronic faults and ensure repaired or replaced components are operating correctly

This is a four-year apprenticeship, although a competency-based training approach allows for possible earlier completion.

**About you **

You enjoy working with a range of different machinery and love solving problems. Nothing makes you happier than pulling things apart to learn how they work

You are someone who has excellent attention to detail, a willingness to learn and is self-motivated to perform

You are reliable and committed to seeing this apprenticeship through from commencement to completion.

**To be successful in this role you need the following**:
Essential skills & competencies:

- Mechanical aptitude
- Experience with hand/power tools
- Passion for the Motor Industry
- Ability to work as part of a team
