**About the role**:
This position will be based at our Lytton Refinery in Brisbane and will be responsible for the effective, safe and efficient operation of our Lytton Refinery and Kurnell Terminal laboratories ensuring properly qualified staff provide accurate, reliable and expert information to Ampol and its customers that enables the refinery to efficiently produce finished products to the required standard specifications.
**Key responsibilities.**
- Manages the development, implementation and monitoring of laboratory work procedures, equipment layout and safety precautions to achieve minimum practicable risk of personal injury and safety incidents including losses of containment and fires.
- Meets the requirements of laboratory customers for prompt, accurate test results to enable the Operations, Technical and Supply departments to efficiently optimise process plant operation and blend and release refinery products to specification.
- Manages the maintenance and improvement of an effective quality assurance system to achieve mínimal laboratory errors and high conformance with inter-laboratory correlation programs.
- Establishes, monitors, and achieves an operating expense budget for the laboratory to ensure cost competitive delivery of test results.
- Maintains personnel technical expertise in testing and product quality through awareness of industry best practice including initiatives to enable provision of accurate and reliable advice to Ampol parties requiring this support to facilitate effective and appropriate decisions.
- Accountable for release of all fuels products through the completion of accurate laboratory testing and authorisation of product quality certificates.
**Skills and experience**:
- Essential:
- Tertiary degree in Science with Major in Chemistry.
- Extensive leadership experience within a laboratory supporting an industrial/oil refining process plant; including OPEX/CAPEX management.
- Ability to work across a broad range of personnel to collaborate, coach and drive change in ambiguous circumstances.
- Able to lead, engage and develop laboratory staff and functions, while maintaining safety.
- Knowledge of refining process units. Demonstrated skills related to incident investigation and MoC processes.
