This role is concentrated on leading the development of land-based carbon projects for carbon asset development focused in Australia under the ERF.

The Carbon and Forest Technical Expert will provide support to the following core components under the role: Delivery of project development services under the Australian Emissions Reduction Fund and other Australian based standards.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Head of Carbon. The Technical Expert will be supported by Bioeconomy’s project operations team, which oversees ongoing project monitoring, reporting, and verification.

**Responsibilities**
- Establish and manage HIR and other Australian based ERF projects which conform to the requirements of the Clean Energy Regulator or other Australian based certification scheme.
- Be primarily responsible for the estimation and calculation of carbon from Australian projects
- Quick accurate estimation of project carbon potential from new project opportunities to support commercial team
- Evaluation of projects ability to meet eligibility criteria of various ERF methodologies, and project risk analysis from a technical perspective
- Lead technical support for the development of Australian ERF projects including responsible for all FULLCAM calculations, registration, stratification and regenerative reports to ensure successful issuance ACCUs
- Project Data collection, data management and analysis for all aspect of project development
- Ongoing management of Australian projects from a technical perspective
- Keep up to date and be able to deliver critical assessment or new carbon accounting approaches and new methodologies within the Australian context.
- Build team expertise in understanding of GHG protocols and emissions data - mentoring and developing junior team.
- Undertake/manage on site inventory activities and establishment of sample plots
- Ongoing Monitoring and verification of existing projects, and optimising MRV.
- Oversee GIS and Remote sensing data processing as well as carbon data analysis
- Travel when necessary to project sites

**Qualifications**
- Have been involved with and taken at least one ERF project through to successful issuance.
- Intimate familiarity with FullCAM and ERF carbon calculation methodologies.
- Experience with one or more GIS/Remote Sensing and have experience mapping out Carbon Estimation Areas and undertaking stratification for ERF projects or like experience.
- Strong familiarity in carbon accounting related work streams for national or project level.
- Experience in regeneration of a native forest is highly desirable.
- Experience in designing, evaluating, and/or implementing nature-based carbon projects in the voluntary carbon market.
- Understand carbon accounting/modeling activities in accordance with ERF, the Voluntary Carbon Standards (VCS), Climate Action Reserve (CAR) or other reputable standard.
- Knowledge and understanding of carbon accounting frameworks and standards/guidelines: UNFCCC, IPCC 2006 guidelines (refined 2019), GFOI methodological guidance, FCPF methodological framework; including the relevance of legal and political context, ERF, ACCU.
- Excellent mathematical skills.
- Familiarity with reforestation and deforestation issues, forest ecology, climate change mitigation/adaptation, peatland science, and related environmental change issues
- Experience and comfortable presenting to and/or communicating with government or legislative staff, community or business leaders, program leadership and/or similar audiences

- Excellent written and spoken communications skills.
- Fluent in MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint, FullCAM and possibly MATLAB, ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine, etc.
