Sherwood State School's motto, Aim higher, reflects our commitment to building a strong foundation for the future success of our students. **Our Sherwood children**: - Are optimistic and happy learners. - Demonstrate flexibility and trustworthiness in the way that they interact with others. - Have a strong sense of self expression and well developed communication skills. - Are confident and socially competent as active members of the community. - Work purposefully and with persistence to achieve realistic goals. - Are cooperative, considerate and well adjusted contributors to their own well being and others around them. - Show their love of learning and are creative thinkers. - Are life long learners with the skills and abilities to participate productively in local and global communities. **Sherwood State School Priorities**: Intellectual Rigour and Differentiation High Order Thinking is explicitly taught in all classrooms from Prep to Year 6. High-order thinking processes include comparing, evaluating, designing and analysing. Teaching children how to use these thinking processes to solve problems gives them a powerful intellectual advantage. Differentiation is our second priority. All of our Sherwood teachers are adjusting their lessons and units of work to cater for the wide range of student abilities, learning styles and interests. In each of our classrooms teachers are using pre-assessment tools to gauge student knowledge and then planning to cater for these differences. There are opportunities for the class to work together as a whole, in small groups and for individuals to work independently according to their needs and abilities. Increasingly our students are able to work across classes in 'like need' groups. **Teaching in Queensland**: The department is responsible for the delivery of quality education services to all Queensland students in state schools and recognises teachers and their commitment to teaching through a range of rewards and benefits.
