Environment & Sustainability Manager

Gold Coast Light Rail has transformed public transport on the Gold Coast, helping create an integrated network that connects more people to more places in one of Australia's most dynamic and fastest growing cities.

John Holland is GoldlinQ's recommended design and construction contractor for GCLR3, to extend the existing light rail network by 6.7 kms from Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads, including eight new light rail stations, two new light rail-bus connections, and intersection upgrades along the alignment.

Jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments, and the City of Gold Coast, this city-shaping project will link communities to business centres, shopping, dining, education, and medical facilities and cater to the Gold Coast’s expected population growth in the coming decades.

**About the Role**:
Manage project environment and sustainability requirements, ensuring project compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, contractual obligations and John Holland Health, Safety and Environmental procedures, deriving sustainable outcomes that are of value to our customers and stakeholders.

**Responsibilities of the role include**:

- Manage the project specific sustainability objectives and targets, actions, procedures and tools to provide surety of successful project delivery, which is in compliance with the project sustainability management plan and the project's contractual obligations
- Provide leadership and technical direction to design, construction, commercial, operational and other key project teams in relation to sustainability and environment requirements
- Build and maintain strong relationships through collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and the client
- Attend to and derive sustainable and environmental outcomes during design and construction, procurement and other functional led meetings
- Manage budget allocation as required to ensure sustainability and environmental management is undertaken in a cost-effective manner
- Develop, manage, and lead the continual technical improvement of company and project environment and management systems
- Accelerate learning and development of others through coaching, sharing knowledge and mentoring
- Client Relationships: Creates positive impact with client through involvement in key decisions
- Governance: Communicates standards and expectations and ensures compliance
- Development: Encourages the team to look for, and actively participate in, development opportunities
- Engagement: Sets and role models the behavioural standards within the team
- Strategic Planning; Translates operational plans into team and individual targets
- Innovation: Encourages teams to look for better and smarter ways of working

**Essential requirments for this role are**:

- Bachelor of Engineering, Science, Sustainability or other associated disciplines
- Post graduate qualifications e.g. Masters in Engineering, or Graduate Certificate or Diploma in Risk, Sustainability, Project Management or other associated disciplines.
- Construction sustainability and environment management (5+ years)
- Understanding of Federal, State and local environmental statutes and legislation
- Understanding of sustainability rating schemes and standards
- Knowledge of tender requirements, project planning, development, implementation and review.
- Ability to lead high level investigations involving multiple internal and external parties.
- Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative environmental risk assessment and development of risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects.
