**About the Role**
The Practitioner in Residence: Podiatry will work closely with the Associate Professor: Rural Health Education and Training to engage in the delivery of the SA Aboriginal Diabetes-related Foot Disease Program.

The University of South Australia’s Department of Rural Health (DRH) is aligned to the UniSA Allied Health and Human Performance Academic Unit within the portfolio of the Dean: Clinical Education and Equity.
The DRH is funded through the Australian Government Department of Health’s Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program, which aims to improve the recruitment and retention of medical, dental, nursing and allied health professionals in rural and remote Australia in the following key areas:
- Providing effective rural training experiences for health students.
- Developing an evidence base for the efficacy of rural training strategies in delivering rural health workforce outcomes.
- Supporting rural health professionals to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
- Increasing the number of rural origin health and medical students.
- Maximising the investment of program funds in rural, regional and remote areas for the maintenance of well supported academic networks to enhance the delivery of training to students and the provision of medical services to communities.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Diabetes-related Foot Complications Program is funded through the Commonwealth Department of Health and auspiced by the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). The South Australian Diabetes-related Foot Disease Program aims to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people affected by diabetes-related foot disease in South Australia by bringing together multiple organisations to reduce the impact of chronic disease through the delivery of collaborative, appropriate, well-coordinated, evidence-based strategies.
**Core Responsibilities**
- Provide clinical support and education, in alignment with the South Australian Diabetes-related Foot Disease Strategic Plan
- Collaborate with the SA Aboriginal Diabetes-related Foot Disease Program to promote system-wide improvements and integration of services for Aboriginal people with diabetes-related foot disease
- Develop models of engagement to support sustainable education and clinical activity partnerships with service providers, provide support for health staff and students, develop an interprofessional model for education delivery and support utilisation of Patient Information Management Systems
- Provide educational support for staff and students engaging with the program. This will include collaborating with relevant academic staff, supporting the development of podiatry clinical skills and knowledge specific to the needs of members of the Aboriginal community with diabetes and engaging with student placement activity and projects
- Assist in monitoring and evaluation of the program, including data collection
**Essential Skills and Experience**
- Qualification that confers eligibility for registration as a Podiatrist
- Relevant recent experience as a clinician in a rural setting, including working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services
- Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of community education activities
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills suited to interacting with a broad range of stakeholders
- Demonstrated organisation and time management skills together with the initiative to manage multiple priorities
