**The Role**

Centacare has an opening for a Youth Mental Health Peer Worker join our headspace team at Port Adelaide to join on full time basis till 30 June 2026.

In this role, you will draw on your lived experience to provide compassionate support to young people aged 12-25 years, helping them navigate and overcome challenges related to trauma, mental health, and emotional distress. Your insight and understanding will play a crucial part in fostering hope and resilience, empowering young people to take positive steps toward improved wellbeing.

The key duties in this role will include:

- ** Provide Peer Support**: Offer brief, non-clinical peer support to individuals through face-to-face interactions or telephone engagements.
- ** Leverage Personal Experience**: Draw on personal experiences of mental or emotional distress, service use, and recovery/healing to connect authentically with individuals.
- ** Empower Recovery**: Share relevant skills and learnings to instill hope and empower individuals to progress in their recovery journey.
- ** Provide Resource Information**: Offer information about clinical and non-clinical services and make appropriate referrals as needed.
- ** Facilitate Support Groups**: Lead and facilitate peer support groups to foster connection, understanding, and mutual support among participants.

**To be successful in this role, you will need**:

- **Minimum qualification Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (or equivalent)
- Lived experience of a mental illness and demonstrated significant mental health recovery
- Proven experience working with young people experiencing emerging and diagnosed mental health concerns
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite
