About the Role

Reporting to the Operations Delivery Manager the Chemical Officer will be an integral part of the Engineering and Technical Services Group supporting our power station’s operations, including electrical and civil engineering, chemical processes, bulk materials handling, and environmental and drawing services. The Group works closely with our Maintenance and Operating Groups to optimise plant availability to meet production requirements.

As the Chemical Officer, you will provide specialist chemical services and monitor the performance and condition of the chemical plant, initiate, and implement actions and strategies to ensure that the plant and associated equipment achieves availability targets and provide specialist chemical services as required for our power station operations.

This role is permanent, full-time based at our Bayswater Power Station in the Hunter Valley, NSW.

What you’ll be doing:
- Monitoring the performance and condition of the plant on a daily basis and initiating appropriate action- Developing and implementing maintenance and operating strategies along with maintaining plant history systems, reviewing defect backlog and follow-up of outstanding items as required- Investigating chemical plant failures and producing reports recommending solutions to identified plant problems- Providing specialist chemical technical advice and direction- Preparing work scopes and specifications, analysing and evaluating tenders- Planning, supervising and conducting special projects as required- Planning, supervising and conducting sampling and laboratory analyses of various products or materials and maintaining and monitoring chemical dosing systems- Developing and presenting information to employees on chemical process matters- Supervise contractors conducting chemical work- Ensure that chemical plants and systems conform to environmental protection requirements and that safety standards and processes are applied at all times.

About You

As an experienced Chemist, you are equally productive working as part of a team and independently. You enjoy being hands-on, getting out in the field and have a yearning to learn new things and deliver quality outcomes.

What you’ll bring to the table:
- Tertiary qualifications in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering (Associate Diploma, Engineering Certificate or Degree level)- Its highly desirable that you have experience in a power station or similar heavy industrial environment along with an understanding of the plant, systems, equipment, materials and maintenance methods applied- Knowledge of process chemistry along with environmental controls and regulations related to the operation of a coal-fired power station or similar heavy industrial environment is desirable- Proficiency in the use of laboratory or diagnostic equipment and demonstrated ability to interpret and analyse the results- Effective presentation and communication skills, including technical report writing- Practical skills in MS Office programs and SAP or similar IT system- Mentoring and training of trainees or new employees from time to time- Understanding of WH&S practices and environmental legislation along with experience in handling dangerous goods- Demonstrated experience and ability to plan work, manage priorities and achieve outcomes
