**About the Role**:
Mental Health, Justice Health and Alcohol & Drug Services (MHJHADS) provide health services directly and through partnerships with community organisations. The services provided range from prevention and treatment to recovery, maintenance and harm minimisation. Consumer and carer participation is encouraged in all aspects of service planning and delivery. The Division works in partnership with consumers, carers and a range of government and non-government service providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for clients.

The Division delivers services at a number of locations, including hospital inpatient and outpatient settings, community health centres, detention centres, other community settings including peoples’ homes.

These services include:

- Adult Community & Older Persons Mental Health Services
- Adult Inpatient Mental Health Services
- Alcohol & Drug Services
- Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services
- Justice Health Services

Adult Inpatient Mental Health Services is across both The Canberra Hospital (TCH) and North Canberra Hospital (NCH) sites, and includes services such as Adult Mental Health Unit, Ward 12B Mental Health Unit, Mental Health Short Stay Unit, Mental Health Clinical Liaison TCH and NCH, Acacia Mental Health Unit (Acacia) for Acute Adults and Banksia Mental Health Unit (Banksia) for Older Persons.

The Mental Health Consultation Liaison (MHCL) provides advanced clinical care and leadership across acute hospital settings at NCH, including the Emergency Department, Critical Care, Maternity, Medical, and Surgical wards. Working within a small multidisciplinary team, the MHCL delivers high-quality, recovery-focused mental health assessment and short-term management strategies for individuals in acute distress.

This role supports clinical decision-making, provides consultation and education to hospital teams, and engages with families, carers, and external agencies. The MHCL contributes to service development, quality improvement, and the orientation and mentoring of staff and students. The position operates within a rotating seven-day, extended hours roster, with future expansion to 24/7 coverage. The MHCL is accountable for their own professional standards and plays a key role in fostering a safe, therapeutic, and person-centred environment.

**Note**:The position operates within a rotating seven-day, extended hours roster, with future expansion to 24/7 coverage.

A merit pool may be established from this recruitment process and will be used for the next 12 months to fill various positions both on a temporary and permanent basis with full-time and part-time opportunities available.
