The Trading Analyst / Junior Trader is responsible for assisting the trading team with the management and analysis of the company’s electricity exposures arising from its retail operations. An integral part of this role is growing the capability of the trading function through assisting in trading/market analysis and identifying trading opportunities in already established markets, but also new dynamically developing markets.

**Responsibilities**
- Assist in the development and implementation of sophisticated and high-value trading strategies
- Assist the trading team with day-to-day analysis of the market
- Continually analysing energy markets, generating ideas and formulating market driven hedging strategies that produce a risk/return benefit within the risk limits
- Analyse competitor behaviour and market fundamentals in electricity markets
- Analyse data to improve current trading strategies reporting finding to the trading team as well as researching new trading opportunities
- Actively communicate with the traders to execute contract strategies via the ASX, brokers as well as direct with counterparties
- Prepare presentations of analysis to explain and prepare accurate, detailed and timely reports including hedging ideas presented appropriately to the intended audience
- Monitoring trading activities to discover and eliminate operational risks.
- Assisting traders with data validation and various ad hoc projects
- Helping to build quantitative models to capture market opportunities, improve understanding of supply/demand drivers
- Update python modelling and environments, servicing and maintaining all tools used by trading as well as building a library of trading tools in Python

**Qualifications & Expertise**
- Degree or equivalent in Business/Economics, Commerce, Finance, Engineering or similar discipline relevant to the operations of the electricity supply industry (essential)
- AFMA accreditation (or working towards) with Electricity specialisation (desirable)
- Solid technical understanding of the Australian electricity markets
- Demonstrated experience in a trading role and ideally have a sound understanding of the electricity and renewables and the ability to identify and assess the implications of industry changes and identify market opportunities
- Good understanding of financial derivative instruments and associated pricing methods as well as fundamental market modelling in electricity and related markets
- Strong quantitative background to continually analyse the portfolio and market conditions to assist with the development of a robust commodity hedging strategy that is accurately reflected in the business plan
- Experience and high proficiency in sourcing and analysing data to formulate pricing, hedging and business decisions
- Experience and proficiency in a programming language is desirable. Python, VBA and SQL is a must
- A self-starter with the ability to also work in a team setting in developing information, strategies and solutions
