**TERMS OF REFERENCE - Secondary Education Training Program (STEP) TEACHER**
**DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT**: 24 months from the commencement date.

**Salary**:$75k - 85k gross
Social Development Inc. (SDI) is a not for profit incorporated association registered entity for the Ismaili community in Australia, New Zealand and PNG. Its key objectives are to endeavor to improve the quality of life of its beneficiaries in the areas of education, health, social welfare, housing, economic welfare, and humanitarian assistance. Included in these are activities dedicated to the development of women, youth and the elderly and activities related to culture, sports.
SDI is seeking the professional services of a STEP teacher in shaping and inspiring Ismaili students through teaching the Secondary Curriculum developed by The Institute of Ismaili Studies. The STEP teacher would be responsible for the effective planning and implementation of a sound Secondary Religious Education program through appropriate educational responses that would address the needs of students. The position includes teaching assignments, training and mobilizing the community and stakeholders for participation in the religious education of students. It calls upon providing professional knowledge and expertise in supporting other educational endeavors of The Shia Imami Ismaili Tariqah and Religious Education Board for ANZ (ITREB for ANZ). Additionally, it also encompasses continuous development of content knowledge, pedagogical skills, practices, competencies and one’s understanding of the Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) curriculum to meet the diverse needs of all students through self-study and/or institutional initiated programs or activities.
This is an identified position and is to be filled by an Ismaili person as a genuine occupation requirement in accordance with section 14 (d) of the Anti-Discrimination
Act 1977 (NSW).
**WORKING HOURS**
- Standard working hours of 38 hours per week.
- Working hours will comprise of curriculum delivery to 4 to 5 classes a week (up to 15 to 20 hours of teaching time per week) with approximately 20 students per class).
- STEP being a supplemental education stream will be taught at non-traditional times, such as weekends and evenings. Teaching to be done as per the schedule provided by the Academic Director and/or his/her designate.
- Since the community in ANZ is highly dispersed, the position involves travel to at least two centers within ANZ to deliver the curriculum or support other educational endeavors of ITREB for ANZ.
**Key Duties & Responsibilities**
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
**1. Curriculum Implementation**:
a. Teach the curriculum for at least 90 hours per class each year (including face to face, online teaching and other modalities suitable for the context) based on the Curriculum Implementation Schedule and Deployment plan given by the Academic Director;
b. Be responsible for implementing the IIS Secondary Curriculum; create
Lesson Plans, Unit Plans and Term Plans ensuring that the plans include appropriate areas of curricula, instructional design and assessment of learning outcomes, effective and in line with educational aims, values and outlooks of the IIS Secondary Curriculum;
c. Ensure that the teaching and learning process and approaches are appropriate and relevant to the age and profile of the students being taught and the lesson plans are submitted to the Academic Director at least two days before each class.
d. Continuously explore innovative and creative ways of transmitting knowledge, skills and values to ensure effective and efficient implementation of the curriculum; while drawing on resources and frameworks provided by the IIS.
e. Manage the organization and coordination of student excursions and evaluate them for educational merit and improved planning for future trips;
f. Plan appropriate strategies for Celebration of Learning in collaboration with the local team as well as in conjunction with the module being taught and the context.
g. Prepare and deliver the curriculum through episodic programs such as residential/non
- residential camps or holiday classes.
**2. Classroom Management**:
a. Ensure that policies and procedures set down by ITREB for ANZ, and other stakeholders are implemented and followed;
b. Ensure that the classroom environment is safe and conducive to promote effective teaching and learning and secure physical and emotional space is created to encourage students to express themselves through discussion and activities;
c. Develop professional and appropriate relationships with the students, such that the students respect and recognize the teacher-student relationship;
