Kennedys is seeking a highly motivated, full time Associate with 2-4 years' PQE to join our Liability team based in our busy Perth office.

**TEAM**:
Kennedys is a leading global insurance law firm and has had a presence in Australia since 2006. In 2017, Kennedys Melbourne opened to reinforce the firm's commitment to the Australian market and Kennedys has fast-growing offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane.

**ROLE**:
Working closely with two partners, primarily on shipping, marine, property and aviation matters across the liability/insurance practice. Work will extend to include commercial and shipping advisory and transaction work, litigation and arbitration working for international and domestic insurers, Lloyd's, London and overseas market (re)insurers, local governments, shipping and transport companies, major airlines and construction companies.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Draft legal documents including briefs and pleadings.
- Review and analyse legal documents and evidence, identifying key information and relevant issues.
- Draft advice for clients.
- Conduct legal research including relevant case law.
- Review and analyse discovered documents, exhibits and other evidence.
- Liaise with clients, counsel and other parties.
- Keep abreast of legal developments and changes in relevant laws, regulations and case law.
- Meet your fee budget of 1,580 billable hours per financial year, or such other target as is reasonably set by the Managing Partner of the Firm.
- Carry out all marketing, learning and development, administration or planning duties that are necessary for the conduct of the matters you are working on or which you are requested to perform by the Firm.

**WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR**:

- A strong litigator with a Bachelor of Laws (or relevant equivalent), with 2-4 years' PQE in liability or general insurance with either a background, or genuine interest, in marine, aviation, transportation or property damage files
- Experience drafting legal documents including advices, briefs and pleadings
- Able to conduct legal research including relevant case law
- Proven ability to review and analyse legal documents and evidence and identify key information and relevant issues
- Confidence liaising with clients, counsel and other parties
- Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
- Demonstrable organisational skills, strong attention to detail and a proven ability to manage your own time
- High level of professionalism and integrity; displaying the highest standard of professional ethics
- Flexible attitude towards working practices and ability to adapt style as required
- A natural team player ready to assist and support colleagues where necessary
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic with a genuine desire to further your career at Kennedys
