Council’s Climate Action Team is made up of a passionate group of change makers dedicated to responding to the climate emergency, championing better environmental performance across the organisation, and actively supporting the community to live more sustainably. The team lead the delivery of Council’s Climate Emergency Response Plan with a focus on climate change mitigation, adaptation and mobilising staff and the community in climate action.

**What you will bring to the role**

We are looking for an Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) Officer to drive ESD in Council’s infrastructure and support the implementation of ESD in the Surf Coast Planning Scheme.

***To be successful in the role you will have:

- A passion for driving ESD in the built environment
- A great working knowledge of ESD in the Victorian Planning Scheme, and
- An ability to work in a dynamic environment and positively influence key stakeholders.

**Key Selection Criteria**:
**Mandatory Qualifications and Experience**:

- A tertiary qualification in Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Design, Architecture or a related discipline is required or demonstrated extensive experience in environmentally sustainable design.
- Excellent understanding of Victoria’s planning framework as it relates to environmentally sustainable planning and management within local government.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and gain cooperation from a diverse range of people, including staff, community groups, government personal and community groups.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills including experience in preparing written reports and correspondence.
- Highly developed project management skills and experience in working with diverse stakeholders.
- A current WWCC.
- Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council). A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia.

**Desirable Qualifications and Experience**
- Current Victorian driver’s licence.
- Awareness of the roles, responsibilities and issues relating to Local Government in the areas of climate change, resilience and adaptation.
