**The Role**
Within the Base Support function, an EL 1 Base Manager is accountable, under broad direction, to achieve complex to very complex customer support work within an integrated workforce. They require an in-depth knowledge of compliance requirements within relevant legislative frameworks, Government decision-making and Defence’s Mission and policy requirements.

The Base Manager has a considerable degree of independence and a significant leadership role. They will exercise sound decision making and judgement to provide expert policy advice. They will have in-depth knowledge of the base support function and are responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of policies and procedures relevant to that function. They will engage in complex to very complex problem solving and issues management and may coordinate and perform detailed or sensitive projects that impact on strategic, political or capability outcomes for Defence.

The Base Manager is accountable to plan, lead and manage a range of human and physical resources and exercise financial responsibilities to achieve business outcomes. They will manage one or more teams. They will develop and implement work plans, set performance indicators, and review individual, team and business performance. They will focus on identifying opportunities for building team capability and continuous improvement. They will set work that aligns with the strategic objectives and communicate expected outcomes to maintain a high performing and cohesive team.

Base Managers are responsible for actively managing key stakeholder relationships and will be required to identify stakeholders’ expectations and concerns and develop and communicate methodologies and practices to achieve outcomes. They will be accountable for contributing towards ongoing self-improvement and professional development of their work area.

**About our Team**
East West Zone has a large geographical footprint, which includes NSW (excluding the Riverina), ACT and Western Australia. The customer base includes the three Australian Defence Force Services, supported by both Australian Public Servants and Contractors.

You will lead a diverse and flexible team that work from HMAS Creswell and HMAS Albatross to support SEG customers at those bases and several other smaller Defence sites within the South Coast area. Your team is one part of an integrated service delivery model that relies on contributions from many Organisations including, but not limited to, Service Delivery Division and Infrastructure Division within the Defence Estate and Infrastructure Group and contracted delivery firms.

- Be accountable for managing and leading a team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, developing strategies and evaluating business outcomes.
