**Role Description/Criteria**

**The successful applicant needs to**:

- be committed to the ethos and values of Catholic Education
- provide support in areas such as student attendance, engagement and mental health
- provide students, their families and staff with support and/or appropriate referrals in difficult situations such as during times of grief, or when students are facing personal or emotional challenges
- provide pastoral care and guidance to students about values and ethical matters, referring students, or sourcing appropriate services to meet their needs, which may involve access to services in the community
- support students and staff to create an environment which promotes the physical, emotional, social and intellectual development and well being of all students
- liaise with the families of 'at risk' students providing pastoral care and support in times of need, family crisis, illness etc.
- provide feedback and adjustment recommendations to relevant staff to ensure that students and families who are at risk are fully supported in order for students to engage fully in their learning.
- support students and staff to create an environment of cooperation and mutual respect, and promoting an understanding of diversity within the range of cultures and relevant traditions.
- liaise between the families and school when required.

**Qualifications**

The Chaplain would receive an appropriate salary dependent upon qualifications, duties and expertise

**NSCP's minimum qualification requirements are either**:

- a Certificate IV in Youth Work; or
- a Certificate IV in Pastoral Care; or
- Tertiary Qualifications in Social Work, Youth Work, Psychology, Counselling or equivalent
- Registration with Australian Counselling Association (ACA) is required
- Accreditation with Australian Association of Social Worker (AASW) (desirable)
- Experience working as a Social Worker (desirable)
- an equivalent qualification (as determined by the State) that must include competencies in mental health and making appropriate referrals.

**Other Requirements**
- Current Working with Children Card
- National Police record check
