**Contract position 19 months, anticipated commencement 28 April, 2025.**
**We are seeking a motivated, capable and skilled technician with experience in providing general laboratory and technical support for a range of teaching activities.**
Primarily, this role will support the School of Biological Sciences undergraduate teaching program on North Terrace supporting teaching in the areas of biology, immunology, virology and microbiology.
The Technical Services Team delivers outstanding support to students, academics and researchers for enhancing education and research output. We provide a platform for collaboration across the University, broad industry involvement and community engagement through focused customer service based on exceptional personnel skills and expertise.
The team works closely with Academics and Faculty teams as well as the Infrastructure Branch to ensure efficient utilisation of teaching, office, workshop and laboratory space. Being committed to Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) values, the team manages safe operations across the Faculty labs and workshops.
Working under general direction, the Technical Officer is responsible for planning technical aspects of undergraduate practicals, associated consumables and equipment. The position liaises with academics for the coordinated delivery of practicals. You will be required to maintain accurate records of all teaching material and assets, ensuring compliance with Health, Safety and Wellbeing and legislative requirements. You will also support activities related to a broad range of laboratory skills in the field of biology, immunology, virology and microbiology
**To be successful you will need**:
- Demonstrated experience in biology, immunology, virology and microbiology and small animal work, rat and/or mouse
- Demonstrated experience in maintenance of lab equipment, chemical handling and waste disposal processes
- Ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate individual and team work activities to achieve goals and meet deadlines in a complex environment.
- Experience with laboratory equipment: developing SOP, RA, routine maintenance, liaising with contractor for equipment repair
