For these opportunities we are seeking applicants who are passionate about public education and committed to delivering the Plan for NSW Public Education.
The roles sit within the Legal Services directorate which supports schools, regional and state offices to navigate the law to put students at the centre of decision-making. The directorate includes the following teams: Employment, School Attendance, Liability, Administrative Law, School Law, Commercial, Property and Construction, Early Childhood Outcomes, Compliance and Privacy, Right to Access.

**About the role**
The Paralegal Officer must have a high-level of written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage high volume of enquiries with competing priorities.
The key accountabilities for a Paralegal Officer include:
- Providing legal, clerical, and administrative support and high-quality client service in a professional manner.
- Responding to complex and sensitive enquiries in accordance with the department’s standards, policies, and procedures to provide accurate information to stakeholders.
- Undertaking research and project work, draft legal documents (under supervision) and providing related administrative and legal support as required to contribute to the efficient operation of the Legal Services directorate.
- Communicating with clients and referring enquiries to relevant Legal Services officers.
- Assisting with the preparation and delivery of legal education and training programs to internal and external stakeholders.
- Assisting with the collection of relevant legal data for reporting purposes.

**Essential requirements of the role**
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
- Legal qualifications with eligibility to hold a current NSW legal practising certificate, or recent substantial completion of legal studies leading to a law degree for practice in NSW preferred but not essential.
**Key Knowledge and experience**
- Knowledge and experience in the relevant area/s of law impacting on the NSW Department of Education, with the ability to provide targeted, high quality assistance, research, drafting and casework services.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
