John Holland has several Projects in the North West Pilbara for the various rail network operators such as BHP, Rio Tinto and FMG.

**Responsibilities of the role include (but are by no means limited to);**:

- Encourage John Holland’s SQE frameworks, policies and procedures, actively promoting this within the Rail Safe working team.
- Co-operate with the Rail Safety Advisor with respect to any action to be taken by the project to comply with a requirement imposed by or under the rail safety worker’s act or the regulations.
- The role of Protection Officer is active and mobile throughout the worksite
- Coordinate, setup and monitor the safety of rail workers and infrastructure whilst works are carried out in or around the rail corridor
- Provide specialist and technical support and information to all line managers which is critical for making decisions about operational safe working strategies.
- Understand the information flow in and out of the project - for example, Safe Notices, TOC Wavers, Site Rail Track Diagrams and Site procedures.
- Manage operational material that is received daily such as special train notices and general orders from the SPO.
- Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems and procedures

**To be successful in this role you will have**:

- Qualified in safe working being able to take TOA, TWA (BHP/JH)
- Qualified in safe working being able to take LPA desirable (BHP/JH)
- Minimum of three (3) years previous rail experience, in a similar role
- demonstrated minimum of one (1) year previous rail experience on BHP Rail Networks, in a similar role.
- Ability to assist management of operational incidents on the network
- Demonstrated high level of knowledge and understanding of the rail network restrictions, operating conditions and safe working rules
- Ability to influence, negotiate desired outcomes, and lead others
- Ability to use safe working control systems
- Knowledge of work train interface with work teams requiring protection
- Ability to prioritise and coordinate safe working activities for work teams
- Knowledge of the Rail Safety Act and System Rail Safety Plans
- Ability to complete Rail CAT 1 medical.
