The CSIRO Geomechanics and Geophysics Laboratory (GGL) is looking for an experienced electronics and instrumentation technician to join a team charged with maintaining and running this world class facility.
This permanent position will involve responsibility for the extensive pressure vessel maintenance programme required to keep the laboratory compliant with all legislated safety and documentation standards, in concert with other team members who cover mechanical maintenance and the running of scientific testing programmes in the GGL.
The position will also involve the potential for new equipment design and technology development with the rest of the scientific and technical teams as well as on the job training and potential courses relevant to the position.

**Your duties will include**:
- Provide a workplace and working environment that is safe and without risk to the health and safety of people in the relevant work area.
- Maintenance and calibration of test & measurement equipment, sensors & transducers.
- Identify equipment fault, repair / replacement of equipment components.
- Maintain complex electronic equipment and assist with programming of data acquisition and logging systems.
- Purchase components essential for equipment maintenance and maintain stock.
- Maintain maintenance documentation.
- Assist scientific staff in the redesign and upgrade of existing equipment and the design of new equipment.
- Design experimental systems and equipment.
- Participate in/carry out testing programs, process data and prepare graphs.
- Communicate openly, effectively, and respectfully with all staff, clients, and suppliers in the interests of good business practice, collaboration, and enhancement of CSIRO’s reputation.

**Salary**: AU$87,068 to AU$98,504 + up to 15.4% superannuation

**To be considered you will need**:
**Essential**
- Minimum - Restricted Electrical license.
- Significant experience with fine electronics and instrumentation.
- Practical experience in fault finding, repairing, and servicing electrical and electronic test equipment.
- Experience working in a scientific laboratory or similar environment, with specific emphasis on electrical & electronic maintenance and the operation of complex test and measurement equipment.
- Experience performing calibration of instruments and transducers.
- Ability to mechanically trouble shoot unique and unusual scientific equipment.
- Written and oral communication skills, including demonstrated report writing skills.
- Ability to perform independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team. demonstrating proactive skills in both innovation and initiative.
**Desirable**
- Demonstrated skills in safe and efficient operations of a scientific environment.
- Post/advanced trade training - Cert IV in Instrumentation.
- Cert IV in Electronics/Electrotechnology or equivalent.
- Laboratory skills - exposure to construction materials testing.
- Experience in experimental design and manufacture.
- Experience with PC based data acquisition and control systems.
- Experience writing laboratory data acquisition and control software, such as National Instruments LabVIEW
- Membership of a Professional Body allowing continual professional development, e.g., IET, IICA, EA.
