**The role**

This newly created role presents an exceptional opportunity to influence and support systemic change. A fundamental purpose of this role is to lead a program of reform arising from “Safer prisons, Safer People, Safer Communities - the Cultural Review of the Adult Custodial Corrections System”.

As a designated position Aboriginal expertise and perspectives is sought to embed strategic and operational leadership across all levels of Corrections Victoria. The Deputy Commissioner will be responsible for a program of reforms. The role will enhance operational leadership to support the safety and wellbeing of Aboriginal staff and improve service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in custody through bringing cultural expertise into all policy, procedures and operational decision making. In addition, the Deputy Commissioner will lead a division focused on implementation of key recommendations right across CV, comprising two other new roles, an Assistant Commissioner for Workforce and Director for Cultural Review Implementation.

We are looking for a leader who is an exemplar of trust and integrity, and is highly credible with Victorian Aboriginal networks, communities and organisations across Victoria.

Additionally come with the following knowledge and capabilities:

- A high-level knowledge of issues impacting upon Aboriginal people in custody and offenders as well as government policy objectives
- A proven track record in project and/ or program design to support outcomes.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of change management, cultural reform and enhancing workforce capability, particularly in a large / complex service systems
- Demonstrated success in leading and managing a high performing team program and operational issues.

**The Organisation**

Corrections Victoria operates Victoria’s adult prison system and post-sentence scheme, seeking to provide safe and secure containment for people in our care and an environment and programs and services that support rehabilitation. Corrections Victoria runs 11 public prisons, two residential facilities for serious offenders post sentence, one transition centre, one community residential facility and oversees three privately operated prisons. Corrections Victoria aims to contribute to community safety by providing best practice interventions that reduce the risk of reoffending, including case management informed by sound risk assessment, offence specific and offence related programs, and transition and reintegration supports.

Corrections Victoria is part of the Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) group in the Department of Justice and Community Safety and supports the Minister for Corrections. CJS also comprises Custodial Health Services (for adult and youth custodial facilities); Policy, Strategy and Service Design; Group Services and Coordination; and Justice Services (which includes Community Correctional Services and other justice programs). CJS plays an integral role in developing safer and more resilient communities and in delivering a trusted justice and community safety system.
