**Head Priest - Granthi**:
Gurdwara Siri Guru Nanak Darbar (Officer, Victoria) is looking to appoint a Head Priest (Granthi).
**About the role**:
As a Granthi you will be responsible in reading Holy Sikh text to preach and conduct pastoral work.
The applicant will be leading a congregation in performing rites and rituals and preaching the essentials from Sikh holy scriptures. They must have good literary, personal, and oratorical skills.
**Essential**:
- Relevant education and knowledge of Guru Granth Sahib ji, Sikh history, and Sikh scriptures
- 5+ years of experience.
- Managerial experience to be able to manage and co-ordinate programs and events with Raagi jatha and other staff.
- Ability to perform duties as per Sikh Rehat Maryada (Sikh code of conduct)
**Key Responsibilities in your role**:
- Be able to perform the duties of a Granthi
- Must have the necessary skills and be able to read clearly, translate, interpret, and preach the holy Scriptures.
- Conduct daily opening and closing prayer, weekly and daily congregations, special occasions, home functions and other associated duties such as delivering hukamnama (royal decree)
- Hold sermons, know the language of the country, and carry out extrovert religious duties including those relating to the interfaith aspect.
- To manage and perform official duties at birth ceremonies, conduct wedding ceremonies, funerals, Ardas and other blessings.
- Be able to prepare Degh (holy communion food) every day and on special occasions.
- Provide religious education to children and adults by delivering and/or teaching the principles of religion and giving music lessons to children.
- Offering counselling and welfare support to members of the congregation.
- Co-ordinate and book dates and times for functions for smooth running of daily tasks, help in organizing and keeping items ready for functions at or outside Gurdwara.
- Promotion of key events and activities of the Gurdwara.
- The applicant will be expected to treat others with humility, compassion, and respect. Participate actively in all events held or represented by Gurdwara.
Applicant must be hardworking, honest, able to lead and work in a team, as well as take own initiative.
The successful applicant must be able to speak, read and write in Punjabi and English. And will be expected to provide education certificates, reference letters and right to work in Australia.
**WAGES/ACCOMMODATION /HOURS OF DUTY /CONTRACT PERIOD**:
$60,000 plus super
Please note: In addition to the above mentioned salary; accommodation, food, and other allowances including transport, utilities, laundry, phone, and internet expenses will be provided by the Gurdwara under contract terms.
**Salary**: $60,000.00 per year
