**The Role**

Working in the Australian mining and water sector, as a Hydrogeologist in our Newcastle office, you will collect, manage and report on groundwater data. Predominantly mining approvals and compliance based, your objectives will include:

- driving to various mine sites in the Hunter Valley;
- operating a manual 4WD vehicle;
- participating in 5:2 and occasional14:7 swings (FIFO and DIDO);
- core and chip logging;
- routine collection of water sample data;
- monitoring bore/VWP installations;
- conducting field tests (slug tests, packer tests, and pumping tests);
- bore design;
- data analysis;
- reporting; and
- performing routine maintenance (light duties) on the monitoring network as required.

This is a full time role with a good work life balance and a long-term development pathway, advancing your career as a groundwater consultant. At AGE you will explore various career path options, depending on your area of interest, such as project management, conceptualisation, numerical modelling, scripting and business development.

**You**

Applicants will require a degree in earth science, geoscience, environmental science or geology. Post graduate studies in hydrogeology would be an advantage but is not essential. Coal Board Medical and experience on mining sites (ideally on a rig), bore installations, groundwater sampling and monitoring is preferred. You will have some exposure to VWP installations, pumping tests, and packer testing however ongoing training will be provided. You will appreciate the importance of accurate data collection as well as a balance of field and desktop capabilities including strong verbal and written communication and sound report writing skills.

You will be seeking to join a comprehensive field studies regime as you build your knowledge and develop a career in groundwater with us. We are looking for an enthusiastic, practical self-starter to commit to a cyclical field work routine in the Hunter Valley as well as various locations around Australia on occasion. Field trips are up to 2 weeks in length, however the swings are shared with other hydrogeologists so you will be encouraged to advance your desk based skills and build a long term career in hysrogeology. A valid manual drivers’ licence, preferably with 4WD experience and certification is required.

Unafraid to roll your sleeves up, you will be physically fit, resilient, relate well to people from all walks of life and enjoy the balance of desktop studies and being out in the field.

Graduates with an enthusiastic, committed approach and relevant theoretical knowledge will also be considered.

**The Opportunities**

As part of the AGE team, you will be working on various projects with the following objectives:

- assessing impacts from resource projects on groundwater systems;
- developing groundwater supplies for municipality, agriculture, and resource sector;
- investigating dewatering and groundwater control needs for excavations; and
- assessing groundwater systems to assist in the development, management, and closure of landfills.

Field work is the main focus for the first 2 years of your development pathway. A training and skills advancement program is provided.
