**Key responsibilities
- Provide technical and specialist environmental advice to region staff regarding development and implementation of environmental impact assessments,
environmental management plans, compliance and approvals, during the concept, development, implementation and finalisation phases of road construction and maintenance projects. This will include the preparation and/or review of environmental impact assessments, Review of Environmental Factors, environmental management plans, contract specifications and drawings and audit reports etc, with a view to implementing the continual improvement of these
documents.
- Provide information and advice to managers and staff in relation to legislative and departmental policy, procedures, and processes relating to environmental issues. Including commissioning of required documentation.
- Assist delivery of the environmental audit program and undertake audits of construction and maintenance projects, as directed by the Team Leader, Superintendent or Senior Environmental Officer.
- Assist with the development and implementation of environmental policies, procedures, standards and specifications to maximise the effectiveness of environmental management activities and outcomes while contributing to the development of the regions environmental performance report.
- Promote, foster and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and agencies concerned with the management of environmental issues. Including establishing links with local officers of other agencies, to determine issues that the department needs to address and include in interdepartmental protocols.
Mandatory qualifications and conditions
- Degree qualification from a tertiary institute in environmental science, natural resource management, environmental engineering or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institute is mandatory for this position.
- Due to this role having access to sensitive data, a criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.
Requirements of the role
- Previous demonstrated experience as an environmental officer, providing specialist advice on environmental management to support compliance with environmental legislative requirements and standards.
- Accepts decision making responsibility and demonstrates judgement about when to escalate issues. Contributes to the development of team objectives and recognises own role in achieving results.
- Upholds integrity through responsible management and use of processes and resources and analyses information to proactively identify risks to the team's planned activities.
