Northern Sydney Safeguards Safeguards is a community-based multi-disciplinary CYMHS program that is embedded within our four local community CYMHS. This position will be primarily based at lower North Shore, working from the Royal North Shore community health centre, with the need for flexibility in working across the district to facilitate timely, local access for children, young people, and their families in need of Safeguards brief intervention. HD (Lower North Shore, Ryde, Hornsby and Northern Beaches). Each clinician will based primarily in one local CYMHS centre, where they will be part of the multi-disciplinary team, accessing clinical supervision and support.
**What you'll be doing**
Safeguards is a new community-based multi-disciplinary CYMHS program providing and brief therapeutic interventions for children and young people (age 0-17) experiencing acute mental health distress.
We provide assessment, brief intervention (including individual, parent, and family therapy, group programs, and psychiatry), and warm handover to other services for ongoing care as needed.
Our Safeguards clinicians are supported to receive specific training, supervision, and support on brief therapeutic intervention models such as: attachment informed brief therapy for young people experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviour; applied Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
- A (DBT-A); systemically informed parenting and family therapy for emotion, behavioural, and conduct problems among others.
The community-based Safeguards team will provide rapid, mobile, intensive and flexible short-term delivery of skilled evidence-based therapeutic interventions. This may include individual and family therapy, parenting interventions, group work, and systemic intervention in collaboration with wider systems (e.g. educational, non-government, DJC, and private providers)
Safeguards services will operate a proportion of its services in extended hours (e.g. Saturdays, early evenings) to improve access to intervention for children, young people, and their families after school or work. (penalty rates applicable for after-hours)

- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or Nursing and registration with AHPRA or membership with AASW for Social Workers. Clinical Psychologists must have a minimum postgraduate Masters or higher in Clinical Psychology. For Social Work, experience as a Level 2 clinician. Occupational Therapist must have experience as a Level 2 clinician. Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 must have relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years' experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification or such other qualifications or relevant equivalent experience.
- Relevant clinical mental health experience in a community setting which includes working with children and/or adolescents and their families.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the assessment, formulation and treatment of infant, child and adolescent mental health problems and family relationship problems.
