**The Opportunity**
We have an opportunity for one full time and one part time Finfish Hatchery Technician to be part of our South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) Division within the Department of Primary Industries and Regions.
The primary purpose of the Finfish Hatchery Technician is to support the delivery of hatchery aquaculture production to complete the scientific research outcomes for the Finfish and Shellfish Sub-Program. The role provides support for the Snapper Restocking Program which produces Snapper fingerlings for release into South Australian waters to aid in the recovery of depleted Snapper populations in Gulf St Vincent and Spencer Gulf, South Australia.
Reporting to the Senior Research Officer (Finfish Larval Rearing), the Finfish Hatchery Technicians will assist in maintaining and improving the techniques in rotifer productions, broodstock conditioning, larval and fingerling rearing. These positions are funded by the Snapper Restocking Program - part of South Australian Government Snapper Recovery Package. The effectiveness of these roles requires experience working on hatchery methodologies for finfish, especially in Snappers. The roles will provide high level of technical expertise, working as effective and supportive team members, producing outcomes with high level of accuracy, in a high-pressure environment to deliver core work for the Finfish and Shellfish Sub-program.
The roles also contribute to delivering the agency’s priorities including increased production of our primary industries, grow regions and building partnerships with industry to grow the value of primary industries by leveraging government’s cross-functional capabilities to pursue opportunities where South Australia has a competitive advantage.

**Special Conditions**
- Successful applicants will be required to satisfactorily complete a National Police Check (NPC) prior to being made an offer of employment.
- Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
- Both positions up to March 2026.
- Multiple positions available.
- The full-time position is required to work Thursday to Monday, including weekends.
- The part time position is required to work Saturday and Sundays.
- Public Holiday work will be required.
**Requirements**:
- Possession of a current driver’s licence and willingness to drive may be required.
- Out of hours work and inter / intrastate travel may be required may be required.
- Australian residency or current works permit is required (responsibility of applicant to provide evidence of a current work permit).
- The incumbents will be required to undertake emergency management training and must be willing to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
- The incumbent will be required to participate in the internal and external training programs.
**Qualifications**
**Essential**:
- Technical qualifications commensurate with a OPS2 level or higher.
**Desirable**:
- Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science / Aquaculture / Marine Biology or equivalent.
- Experience in working within a team effectively.
**Remuneration**
OPS2 - $58,709 min - $63,154 max per annum, plus superannuation adjusted to the number of hours worked
